Last nights snow

Spring snow in southern Colorado is really special. We had about 14 inches out at the ranch last night. It was extremely wet snow, not at all like the powder snow we get in the winter. There must be ten time the amount of water per inch in this snow compared to powder snow. The roads in town look like rivers with all the runoff.

The ground is no longer frozen so snow melts much quicker, especially with the more seasonal warmer temperatures. The result of this melting wet snow on the roads is not really a problem on paved roads as the pavement tends to completely melt everything and it runs off. But on dirt roads like the ones on my ranch early this morning I had about 4 inches of slush under the snow that made driving very interesting. It is extremely easy to loose control while driving on this thick layer of slush, worse I think than even driving on ice.

The good news is It will probably be dried up by the weekend.
