Kathy, Tylor and I took the day off today to explore Picketwire Canyon. The canyon is about 25 miles from La junta Colorado along the Purgatory river. There aren't many visitor to the canyon as we were the only ones there today. The canyons claim to fame is the dinosaur tracks frozen in time on the stone floor of the canyon millions of years ago.

There are also the ruins of an old Spanish mission and grave yard along the path to the dinosaur tracks. The canyon it's self is beautiful. It is located in the Comanche National Grasslands and I can attest it is in the middle of nowhere. I would guess we were at least 20 miles from the closest human being. There are drawings and carvings made by the original inhabitants long before the Europeans ever came on the scene.

If you plan to visit Picketwire Canyon please be advised that the trail head is over six miles to the Dinosaur tracks, thats over 12 miles round trip. So leave early, wear your hiking shoes etc. and bring plenty of water. The trail is pretty steep at times.
