Majors Ranch

Big Horn Sheep

The entrance to Majors Ranch is on County Road 520 about five miles north of Hwy. 160. That’s about 8 miles from the historic western town of La Veta.

Majors Ranch has numerous large acreage parcels with a terrain slightly more arid than the Cuchara Valley. Originally the land was a 22,000 acre working cattle ranch which was split in the 1990's into 172 parcels of 40 acres to over 300 acres each. Owners have the right to split their parcels one time (if they are 70 acres or larger).  Parcel boundries were established by using ridgelines and natural features of the land instead of the normal rectangels normally used giving Majors Ranch a unique setting and ensuring each parcle has it's own different personality.

There are four phases to the ranch.  Two county roads bisect the ranch along with the ranches own private roads. There are two common access to BLM and state land on Silver Mountain from the ranches private roads. Wildlife can be spotted everywhere on the ranch. Some of the more common 4-legged residents include heards of mountain sheep and elk along with bear, dear, mountain lions, turkeys and roadrunners etc...

This is the place to go if you want to escape the rest of the world! It’s truly an outdoorsman’s heaven on earth. The covenants are very moderate, owners may park a motor home or travel trailer on their property before or durring construction. All homes must be at least 1200 square feet and all power lines must be run underground to the building sites. The POA dues are around $200 a year, mostly to keep the roads passable in winter.
